Al-Maktoum Mosque Doors Open Day – Report 2022…

السلام علیکم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Doors Open Days has been celebrated in Scotland since 1990. The purpose of Doors Open Days is to enable everyone to enjoy our shared built and cultural heritage by accessing places, spaces and activities not usually open to them. The event is delivered in collaboration with area coordinators from local authorities and amenity groups, supported by many volunteers.

On Saturday 1st October 2022 Al-Maktoum Mosque Dundee held its first Doors Open Days. With the help of around 30 volunteers, the event took place over the weekend and welcomed over 80 visitors to the mosque. The Doors Open Days was launched with an in-person event and various activities.

The aim of the event was to give Da’wah (Invitation to Islam) to our Non-Muslim friends and to introduce them to the architectural building of Al- Maktoum Mosque and its history. The event hosted a variety of other activities such as Hijab Wearing, Henna, Arabic Writing, Children’s corner for Drawing and Colouring.

Everyone felt they were made to feel Welcome into the mosque. Almost everyone enjoyed the guided tour and found it interesting. Our visitors reported that all questions on the mosque and Islam were answered positively by our volunteers. Of those who observed the prayers, they stated that they enjoyed it and those who were able to attend the presentation found it informative and interesting. The guidance and explanation to the display posters was a good starter at the beginning of the tour. Visitors reported it gave them a good insight into Islam.

How did you hear about Al-Maktoum Mosque Doors Open Day?

After the guided tour and visits to educational stalls, our visitors were treated to some Asian and Middle Eastern cuisine and snacks where there was an opportunity to talk and relax with locals.

At the end of the day on Sunday 2nd October, 2 local ladies took the Shahada (Islamic Declaration). Alhamdulillah. May ALLAH SWT guide them and make them successful.

To our Volunteers

I would like to thank you for volunteering at the Al-Maktoum Mosque Doors Open Days on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of October 2022.

Without your Duas, knowledge, support and hard work, we would not have been able to welcome in so many people, including many of our neighbours, and run a successful open day.

Thank you for being a part of the open day and for committing your time Al-Maktoum Mosque. We pray ALLAH SWT accepts everyone’s efforts and rewards everyone abundantly.

May ALLAH SWT grant us the strength and ability to continue our Dawah and make 2023 Doors Open Day a successful one.

Kindest Regards,
